Step-by-Step Guide: How to Make Country Style BBQ Ribs in the Oven

Step 1: Preheat & Season the Ribs

Preheat your oven to 275-300°F (150°C).
Pat the ribs dry. Rub them down with olive oil or mustard as a binder.

Then generously coat both sides with the Make It Happen BBQ Seasoning and AP Seasoning. If you haven’t purchased my seasonings yet, you can mix brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.

Step 2: Bake Low and Slow

Place ribs in a large baking dish or on a foil-lined sheet with a wire rack.
Bake uncovered for 2 to 2.5 hours.

Then, pour your chosen liquid (pineapple or apple juice, chicken stock, or beer) into the bottom of the dish to ensure there’s enough to generate steam.

Wrap the ribs tightly with foil, and bake for another 90 minutes.

You can bake them on a wire rack over a foil-lined baking sheet for extra caramelization if you like the edges crispy as well as coating the ribs in a little brown sugar and honey.

Step 3: Make the BBQ Sauce

While ribs bake, combine all sauce ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat.
Bring to a simmer and let it bubble for about 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and glossy.

Taste and adjust to your liking—add more vinegar for tang or molasses for sweetness.

Step 4: Sauce and Broil

Once ribs are tender, carefully remove from the oven, take them out of the foil, and drain excess fat if needed. Brush with a generous layer of BBQ sauce.

Increase oven temp to 425°F, or turn on the broiler.

Return your country style ribs to oven, uncovered, and cook for 10–15 minutes (or broil for 3–5) until the sauce is caramelized and sticky.

Step 5: Rest and Serve

Let ribs rest for 5 minutes before serving then serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side.

Serve with classic sides like baked beans, coleslaw, mac and cheese, or skillet cornbread.

MR. MAKE IT HAPPEN PRO TIPS:

  • Want smoky flavor without a grill? Liquid smoke adds that charcoal-like essence—just a few drops go a long way.
  • Make ahead: You can cook the ribs ahead of time and reheat with the sauce when ready to serve.

Boneless ribs? They’ll cook slightly faster—check around the 2-hour mark.
