Exploring the Origins:
Bang Bang Shrimp first gained popularity at a renowned seafood restaurant chain, where it quickly became a fan favorite. Inspired by the vibrant flavors of Asian cuisine, this dish features crispy fried shrimp tossed in a creamy, spicy sauce that leaves taste buds tingling with delight. Since then, Bang Bang Shrimp has captivated the hearts—and appetites—of seafood lovers around the world.
“Mise en place” is a French culinary term that translates to “putting in place” or “everything in its place.” In the culinary world, it refers to the practice of preparing and organizing all the ingredients and equipment needed for a recipe before starting the cooking process. This includes chopping vegetables, measuring out spices, arranging utensils, and preheating ovens. By having everything prepped and readily available, chefs and cooks can work more efficiently, minimize mistakes, and ensure a smoother cooking experience. Mise en place is considered a fundamental principle in professional kitchens and is also widely recommended for home cooking to streamline the cooking process and achieve better results.
For this recipe we need peeled and deveined shrimp. I like to also use a blend of seasoned flavor and corn starch. The corn starch helps ensure the shrimp stay crispy and hold up to our thick sauce.

All-Purpose Flour
Speaking of sauce – for my Bang Bang Sauce, I like to use 1/2 cup mayo, 1/4 cup sriracha, and 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce (Mae ploy is my favorite brand) – 2 tsps of soy sauce and an optional touch of honey for balance and boom.. or should I say bang? There’s your sauce.
Add a little heavy cream and eggs to your shrimp (or buttermilk) plus a pinch of salt and pepper . Toss the shrimp in your seasoned flour and corn starch mixture and place on a plate or foil lined baking sheet while your oil hits 350 degrees.
Once the oil reaches 350, drop the shrimp and fry for about 3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy (145 degrees internal temp). Toss the shrimp in your bang bang sauce – garnish with chives and sesame seeds and enjoy.
Savoring the Experience:
Bang Bang Shrimp is best enjoyed immediately, while the shrimp are still hot and crispy, and the sauce is creamy and spicy. Serve them as a tantalizing appetizer at your next gathering or as a mouthwatering main course alongside rice or noodles. However you choose to indulge, prepare yourself for a culinary adventure that promises to leave you craving more.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, Bang Bang Shrimp is more than just a dish—it’s an experience. With its crispy exterior, succulent shrimp, and creamy-spicy sauce, it’s no wonder this culinary masterpiece has captured the hearts and taste buds of seafood enthusiasts everywhere. So, why wait? Dive into the deliciousness of Bang Bang Shrimp and let your taste buds dance with joy
